Baclofen

Baclofen (or Baclon, Gabalon, Lioresal, Spastin)

Baclofen has main therapeutic properties: he has miorelax and analgesic action.

Proposed clinical use: Baclofen is used to decrease spasticity *multiocular sclerosis and other kinds of spasticity (mainly of spinal origin) but not with muscle tension of parkinsonian patients;

• spastic conditions with diseases of spinal medulla of infectious, degenerative and traumatic origin (eg, tumors, syringomyelia, motor neuron diseases, injuries);
• infantile cerebral paralysis;
• stroke;
• meningitis;
• craniocerebral injuries;
• alcoholism (affective disorder).

During the treatment you should desist from potentially dangerous activities related with need of increased attention and rapid mental and motor reactions. During pregnancy (especially in the first trimester), this drug can be used only for health reasons.

Baclofen reinforces the effect of drugs influencing the central nervous system, hypotensive drugs and alcohol. It is possible significant decrease of muscle tone at the simultaneous use with tricyclic antidepressants.

There are some side effects of Baclofen: mental affections, epilepsy, Parkinson's disease.
